Water Checks
Sign up for a free Water Check. In a Water Check, your irrigation system and landscape are tested to determine soil type and infiltration rates, irrigation system precipitation rates, uniformity and pressure, and the root depth of your lawn. Based on this information, a customized watering schedule will be developed for your landscape.
Free Water Checks are available to residential, commercial and institutional sites. Water Checks are administered through Utah State University Extension and are available throughout Salt Lake County. For Water Checks outside Salt Lake County, contact your individual water provider or county extension program.
Member Agency Assistance Program
Jordan Valley Water allows member agencies to apply for funding in the form of a grant for conservation related projects. Interested member agencies apply with a proposal outlining their project, including costs and anticipated potential water savings to be achieved as a result of their project. The following member agencies have used funding for their conservation programs:
- Bluffdale City
- WaterPro (Draper)
- Granger Hunter Improvement District
- Kearns Improvement District
- Magna Water Company
- South Jordan City
- West Jordan City
Examples of projects include toilet replacement programs, high-tech irrigation controller systems, public education programs and demonstration gardens. Jordan Valley Water anticipates continuing this program as long as there is an interest.
Irrigation Workshops for Landscape Professionals
These workshops are tailored for water users with large turf areas such as schools, churches and landscape property managers for counties and cities. Instruction is given on how to monitor and measure irrigation efficiency in the landscape and how to manage and maintain large turf areas in a water efficient and cost effective manner. Participants receive a workbook, soil probe and a set of catch cups as part of their course registration. For the most recent schedule of workshop dates and information on how to participate, please view our brochure.
This program is conducted by contract with USU Extension. USU takes care of registration and instruction, and the agency hosting the workshop does the promotion and advertising. Past hosts include: Central Utah Water Conservancy District, Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake and Sandy, Utah Division of Water Resources, Washington County Water Conservancy District, and Weber Basin Water Conservancy District.
Model Water-Efficient Landscape Ordinance
Landscape ordinances continue to be an important guide for the public on proper design, installation and maintenance of landscapes. Four member agencies (listed below) have adopted Jordan Valley Water's Model Water-efficient Landscape Ordinance, adapting it to their service areas and needs. Conservation staff continues to work with the remaining member agencies as well as Salt Lake County in the development and implementation of ordinances for commercial and residential development.

Water Quest Homes
In 2003, Jordan Valley Water initiated the “Water Quest: Saving Water by the Yard” program. In this program, four landscapes of Utah homeowners were retrofitted to show how beautiful and economic water-efficient landscapes can be. The Water Quest homes provide mini demonstration gardens in various communities where people can see what a water-wise landscape actually looks like in a home setting. See Pictures
