Fluoridation

Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District currently fluoridates its water sources in order to comply with regulations issued by the Salt Lake County Health Department, based on the majority vote of Salt Lake County residents.

Fluoridation equipment is installed at each of Jordan Valley Water's water treatment plants and at various locations in the well field. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends fluoridation levels be maintained between 0.7 and 1.2 mg/L (or parts per million). Fluoride concentration levels are carefully monitored at each fluoride addition site and at strategic locations within Jordan Valley Water's system. Control equipment has been installed to protect against overfeeding and to assure the safe application of fluoride.

The total cost to implement, operate and maintain the fluoride injection and monitoring systems is approximately one cent per 1,000 gallons of water delivered. There has not been a rate increase specifically assessed for this cost.
